European Kummooyeh Seminar 2025

Three days of swordmanship and inspiration with Grandmaster Jang
From 23 to 25 May 2025, the sports hall of the Ismaning Gymnasium became the venue for an extraordinary event: the European Kummooyeh Seminar, organized by Kummooyeh Germany and hosted with great commitment by the Budo Club Ismaning.

Such a seminar does not take place every day, and even more rarely under the direction of a man who not only teaches Kummooyeh, but also created it: Grandmaster Hyun-Kyoo Jang from Korea, the founder of this extensive sword fighting art, personally traveled from Korea to share his knowledge with the participants.
Day 1 – Training for black belts and instructors
Friday was reserved exclusively for black belts and instructors – those who have been dedicating themselves to the art of Kummooyeh for years. What happened here was more than just a training day: it was an encounter at the highest level. Grandmaster Jang presented advanced techniques and new sword forms that demanded the full concentration of the participants. The participants were challenged – both mentally and physically – and left the hall with a deeper understanding of their martial art.

Days 2 & 3 – The variety of the way of the sword
On Saturday and Sunday, the seminar was open to all Kummooyeh ranks – color and black belts. The seminar hall was crowded with participants from all over Germany. The energy was noticeable – the physical enthusiasm. The program included new sword forms, intensive basic technique improvement, partner exercises, sparring, and fighting with two swords.
But technique was not the only focus. Grandmaster Jang repeatedly took the time to explain the philosophy and history of Kummooyeh. Why is a technique performed in exactly this way? What is the idea behind the movement? What values does the swordsman embody? These insights turned the technique training into a holistic experience.
More than just a seminar – an experience

The European Seminar was no ordinary course. It was an encounter with a martial art that challenges and shapes body and mind in equal measure. The participants left Ismaning not only with new skills, but with a deeper understanding of what Kummooyeh really means: path, discipline, community – and the desire to constantly improve and develop.

The Budo Club Ismaning impressed as host with perfect organization, a warm atmosphere, and tireless commitment – a big thank you to all the helpers in front of and behind the scenes. Kummooyeh Germany proved once again that this art is well established in Germany and will continue to grow.

A heartfelt thank you
Kummooyeh Germany’s deepest gratitude goes to Grandmaster Hyun-Kyoo Jang, whose knowledge and dedication inspired us all. His presence was a gift – his knowledge a legacy.
