3rd International Seminar: A Seminar with Grandmaster Hyun Kyoo Jang in Wolfenbüttel, Germany

Kummooyeh practitioners in Germany recently had the extraordinary opportunity to delve into the traditional Korean sword art of Kummooyeh, guided by none other than Grandmaster Hyun Kyoo Jang, supported by german Kummooyeh Masters . Hosted by Kummooyeh Germany in the historic town of Wolfenbüttel from the 21st to the 23rd of June, this seminar brought together one hundred practitioners from various locations, all eager to learn from a living legend.
-A Grandmaster’s Legacy-
Grandmaster Hyun Kyoo Jang, a respected figure in the martial arts world, is the founder of Kummooyeh. With decades of experience in swordmanship, he has dedicated his life to preserving and promoting this martial art. His visit to Germany was highly anticipated, promising an immersive experience in both the practical and theoretical aspects of Kummooyeh.
-The Seminar Experience-
The seminar spanned three intensive days, each offering unique insights and training opportunities under guidance oft the Grandmaster.
Day 1: Exclusive Black Belt Training
The seminar commenced with an exclusive session for Kummooyeh black belts. This focused day allowed advanced practitioners to delve deeper into complex techniques and refine their skills under Grandmaster Jang’s and his master‘s expert guidance. His detailed demonstrations emphasized precision, control, and the subtle nuances of Kummooyeh, providing invaluable learning experiences for all attendees.
Day 2: Realistic Sparring, Swordform Training, and Archery Competition
The second day opened its doors to both Kummooyeh color belts and black belts, creating a diverse learning environment. Grandmaster Jang presented realistic sparring drills with wooden swords, focusing on practical application and strategic movement. This session was designed to enhance participants’ combat skills and foster a deeper understanding of combat dynamics.
Another significant part of the day was dedicated to swordform training. Grandmaster Jang meticulously analyzed and corrected participants’ techniques, ensuring that each practitioner improved their form and execution. His personalized approach helped attendees grasp the finer points of Kummooyeh swordsmanship.
In the afternoon, participants showcased their archery prowess in a spirited competition, highlighting their precision in traditional Korean archery. The Grandaster was very satisfied with the concentration and performance shown and warmly congratulated the participants of the competition
Day 3: Basic Techniques, Advanced Swordform, and Sparring Competition
The final day began with a focus on basic techniques and the training of an advanced swordform, reinforcing the foundational skills necessary for mastery in Kummooyeh. Grandmaster Jang’s comprehensive approach ensured that all participants, regardless of their level, could enhance their understanding and execution of these core elements.
The seminar concluded with a thrilling sparring competition, where participants donned full armor and engaged in intense, yet respectful, combat. This event was a highlight for many, providing the chance to experience the intensity and strategy of real-time Kummooyeh sparring. Grandmaster Jang emphasized the importance of strategy, timing, and respect for one’s opponent, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and mutual growth among participants.
